Karin Burrell is the Department Administrator. Her primary responsibilities are to manage the budget, so budgetary questions should be addressed to her. She prepares the annual department budget and serves as our liaison with various NYU departments regarding budget issues, including FAS Fiscal Services, Sponsored Research and Endowed Accounts. Ms. Burrell is also responsible for processing appointment forms for new hires, adjuncts, TA/Gas, Visiting Scholars, ID authorization requests and any and all fiscal matters. In addition, she manages the daily office operations by supervising staff, advising the Chair and Executive Committee on university policy, managing space, building access, (purchase and distribution of furniture, computer systems, etc.), and serving as the liaison to Academic Facilities, Purchasing Services and related institutions. She participates in departmental faculty meetings to answer questions regarding policies and procedures, financial aid trends and budgetary information for past and current years.

Eileen Bowman is the Graduate Program Administrator. She works directly with the Director of Graduate Studies and is primarily responsible for the day-to-day administration of the graduate program. Questions faculty or students may have about rules, deadlines, grant opportunities, or minor bureaucratic problems should be directed to Ms. Bowman. If the issue or problem requires faculty advice or approval, the Program Administrator will advise the student to either talk to her, the student's adviser, or the DGS. She coordinates the qualifying examinations, Continuing Financial Aid meeting, department academic calendar, Prospective Student weekend, and oversees the admissions process. She serves as liaison between GSAS, Deans Office, Enrollment Services, Office of International Students and Scholars.

Patricia Mouzakitis is the Assistant to the Chair. She reports to and provides general assistance to the chair. Her responsibilities include: managing appointments and organizing meetings for the chair; collecting relevant materials, scheduling, and delivering materials related to faculty recruitment, third-year reviews, and tenure and promotion reviews; taking minutes of department meetings and executive committee meetings; acting as liaison between the chair and administrative offices; and attending meetings as representative of chair, if needed. She makes travel arrangements, conducts correspondence, processes reimbursements for searches, and handles faculty research accounts. She will maintain the departmental calendar and the chair's files and provides clerical assistance for the chair. She gathers materials necessary for the work of the chair and executive committee.

Student Advising Hours: Mon-Thurs, 9-12:00 & 2:00-4:30

Sadie Paschke assists with the administration of the undergraduate history program. She works directly with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, investigating administrative issues such as transfer credits, graduation requirements, and problems with degree audit. Sadie also advises history majors on course options, clears them for registration, and evaluates degree progress. She handles all undergraduate history forms, including Declaration of Major & Minor, Course Petition, Internship Application, Independent Study Application and Registration Worksheet. She provides administrative support for Phi Alpha Theta, the NYU chapter of the National History Honor Society, and the Historian, the undergraduate history publication.

Jessica Corey works with the Graduate Program Administrator on matters pertaining to the administration of the graduate program, assists with departmental events, and handles various office duties. Besides answering phones and responding to "walk-in" queries, she provides clerical support for the graduate and undergraduate programs by compiling the graduate course schedule, coordinating application files for Graduate Admissions and Fellowships Committees, processing placement file requests in consultation with the Placement Officer, and administrating the graduate registration process (access codes).  She is responsible for web site administration, posting office hours, distributing mail, and handling booking requests for History dept. KJCC conference rooms. She monitors daily office activities to ensure provision of general office services and supplies. She is also responsible for building management requests (air conditioning, lights, moving furniture, etc.), and office equipment problems.

The primary responsibility of the student workers is to serve as assistants to the department support team (Jessica, Eileen, Patty, Karin, Sadie). All work (such as photocopying) should be dropped in the student box. Please inform Jessica of any job requested as she is the primary supervisor of student employees. The student employees should not be given a task directly without informing one of the permanent employees (i.e., Jessica, Patty, Eileen, Karin, Sadie). Students can not be held solely accountable for incomplete or incorrect job performance. Please allow a 24 hour turn-around time for jobs requested. "Urgent" should not be on all of your photocopying requests. The department will no longer reproduce books in its entirety (it is against the law.)
