Research Description:

Joanna Zuercher Curtis is a PhD Candidate in Modern European History at NYU. Research for her dissertation on the state and cultural policy in German-speaking Europe during the Cold War has been supported by funding from the Mellon Foundation and the American Council on Germany.

Prior to beginning her PhD, Joanna worked as a classical musician and as a program director in the field of international cultural diplomacy. She holds a BA in History, Music, and German from Swarthmore College and an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics.
